UMES boasts several state-of-the-art athletic facilities that are known as some of the best in state and region. Most indoor competitions are held at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center, located on the Northwest side of campus at the corner of UMES Boulevard and Backbone Road.
The Hytche Center was recently renovated to include new markings on the basketball court per NCAA regulations, an updated athletic logo and completely redone locker room facilities for men's and women's basketball. The overhauled locker room has a large-screen plasma television to go along with new lockers and carpeting.
Hawk Stadium, the home of the Hawk baseball team is directly behind the Hytche Center. Wind screens and foul polls were added to the stadium in 2008. The dugouts and press box were repainted, and new sod was laid down prior to the season, as well.
Across the street, is the university's Hawk Field, home of the Lady Hawks softball team and the UMES cross-country course. Adjacent to the softball field are the Hawk tennis courts, home of our men's and women's tennis teams, and a large grass area used for soccer by the UMES club soccer team and various other events.
Opposite the baseball and softball fields is the UMES driving range, which was installed in 2006 as part of the university's golf academy. The bowling alley, the practice facility for the 2008 & 2011 NCAA National Championship Women's Bowling Team, is located in the Student Services Center to the right of the Hytche Center.
