PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior T'nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.) and junior Ackeem Smith (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 6. This is the second consecutive week that Falbo has been honored, while Smith claims the distinction for the first time.
For the second consecutive week, it was the effort by Falbo that guided the bowling team to an excellent finish. The team went 2-3 on Friday, before Falbo placed second amongst all bowlers with a 1,176 pin effort to lead the team to a 5-0 finish on Saturday. Falbo shot over 230 three times over five games on day two and had a career-high 280 in the Hawks win over No. 1 Valparaiso University on Saturday.
The right-hander propelled the Hawks to a second-place overall finish in the tournament. For the week, she averaged a season-high tournament average of 235.2. The Greensburg, Pa., native served as the anchor in every game for the Hawks this past week. Her efforts helped her recieve All-Tournament team laurels in the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
Smith recorded a fantastic performance for the men's indoor track team this week at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational as he won the 60m dash and broke the school-record in the 60m hurdles. Smith placed second in the 60m dash preliminaries (6.93) before following it up with a 6.86 first-place finish in the championship race.
He finished in eight-place in the 60m hurdle preliminaries (7.88).
