PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Sophomore Rachel Halmon (Waldorf, Md.) and freshman Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of September 16. The honor is the second consecutive for Rmidi Kinini, while Halmon accepts it for the first time.

Halmon was the top UMES women’s cross country runner for the second consecutive week after she finished in eighth place with a time of 19:58.12 in the 5k race. The finish was over one minute faster that the closest Hawk competitor. Her finish in the race proved to be extremely valuable for the women’s team as they held off Delaware State to claim third overall.

Rmidi Kinini was a force to be reckoned with this past weekend at the Delaware State University Invitational in Dover, Del. The freshman guided the Hawks to their fourth victory at the event in the past five years as he took third-place with a time of 20:55.99. His performance helped UMES secure the victory by one point over Morgan State in the four mile race.
