PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - What would a new athletic year be without a proper kick-off? The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) thinks just that and is scheduled to proceed with the 2008 version of Hawk Hysteria, an athletic and energetic start to the 2008-09 season that features, volleyball, dance performances, team scrimmages, championship ring ceremonies, a birthday party and the introduction of this year's basketball squads.

The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of UMES. It starts with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up between the two top teams in the division of women's volleyball. The 17-7 Hawks host Howard in a match-up that will play a huge role in determining the division's top seed at the conference volleyball tournament.

Immediately following the match the net comes down and the baskets go up as the official kick-off to the 2008-09 basketball season gets underway with contests, giveaways and a birthday party. That's right, Harry the Hawk is turning one and he invites you to be there for a special gift opening, cake, and even some surprise guests.

The night also features a display of champions as the 2007 MEAC Champion Men and Women's Cross-Country Teams, the 2008 MEAC Champion Women's Indoor Track & Field Team and the 2008 NATIONAL CHAMPION Women's Bowling Team will all receive their championship rings in a special ceremony at center court.

Then it is all about basketball as the men and women's basketball teams will be introduced and each will play an inter-squad scrimmage showcasing their talent for the crowd. Head Coaches Fred Batchelor and Frankie Allen are excited about their upcoming seasons and will address the Hawk faithful as well.

Magic 98.9 will broadcast live, Force One Productions will be handling the music responsibilities and there will be performances from the UMES Cheerleaders and The Diamonds.
