PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) volleyball team continued their strong conference play with a pair of wins over Hampton and Coppin State. The Lady Hawks clinched the Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) northern division with their win over the Eagles. In other action, the men and women's Cross Country teams both placed third at the Delaware Invitational #2 with two runners winning their respective races.

Currently, volleyball is riding a 17 match winning streak and is undefeated (19-3, 8-0) in MEAC play as of October 18. Their winning streak is the second longest in the nation this season. The Lady Hawks will play as the number one seed against the number four seed from the southern division in the MEAC tournament.

After taking last week off for training regiments both Peter Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya/Kapsabet Boys H.S.) and Merrecia James (Portland, Jamaica/G.C. Foster C.C.) placed first at the Delaware Invitational. The women's cross country team continues to hold onto first place overall in the MEAC, while the men remain in second place.

James finished with a time of 18:44 in the 5K course while Sang crossed in 25:53 on the 8K course.

Both their times were good enough to earn them recognition with James earning the MEAC Cross-Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and Sang receiving a nod as an other top performer.

Amon Kiprotich (Kapsabet, Kenya/Tulon H.S.) and James continue to hold the fourth best times in the conference as of October 17.

Volleyball claimed its sixth consecutive MEAC player of the week honor after Caylin Woodward (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica H.S.) earned her second nod of the season. Woodward helped the Lady Hawks to a win over Hampton by recording her third triple double of the season.

Woodward posted 10 kills, 10 assists, and 12 digs to help balance the attack. She also added three aces while hitting .238 from the floor.

Woodward's three triple doubles have come in three games against Hampton, four against George Washington, and five games against Morgan State.
