UMES ANNOUNCES NEW RADIO BROADCAST PARTNERS FOR 2011-2012 BASKETBALL SEASON

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletics department is proud to announce the new broadcast partners for the 2011-2012 basketball season. The Hawks Radio Network will work with SFMSports.Net to allow fans to listen to all UMES men's and women's basketball games on the radio and online plus all home games will be streamed online.

SFMSports.Net was launched in 2009 by Steve Clendenin as a broadcast network for college and high school sports. Headquartered in Perry Hall, Maryland, SFMSports.Net also works with Stevenson University, Salisbury University and numerous high schools in Maryland and Delaware. All men's and women's basketball games can be heard online plus all home games can be seen online at the Hawks Radio Network home page.

Hawks men's basketball will be aired WAMS-FM 101.1 in Snow Hill and WQMR-AM 1590 in Ocean City. Timeless Favorites WGOP 540 AM and 100.7 FM returns as the home for Lady Hawks basketball, plus will air select men's basketball contests.

In addition, during basketball games against opponents in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas, the games will be aired on some radio stations in those areas.

Bret Lasky returns as the play-by-play voice of Hawks basketball for his third season. Lasky is the Director of Broadcasting and Graphic Design for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the single-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

Dave Vatz also returns as the studio host for men's basketball and backup play-by-play. Vatz is in his second year with UMES and serves as the broadcaster and media relations contact for Hawks volleyball and baseball.

David Byrd is back for his eighth season as the UMES color analyst, giving commentary for all home and select road games. Coach Byrd is the athletic director as Pocomoke High School and is one of the winningest coaches in the state of Maryland, earning a state championship in 2002.

The first broadcast will be on Friday, November 11th when Hawks men's basketball takes on George Washington at 7:00 p.m. Lady Hawks basketball begins on Tuesday, November 15th when UMES takes on Mount St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m.
