PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletic department is pleased to spotlight Allen Davenport in the continuing series, Fifty Shades of Maroon and Gray. Davenport is the fourth UMES Hall of Fame member to be profiled as the department counts down to the 2014 Hall of Fame induction on February 14th.

Davenport lettered in basketball and baseball in the early ‘80s, earning his degree from UMES in 1987. The Portsmouth, Virginia native played under fellow UMES Hall of Famer Kirkland Hall as a member of the basketball team. Davenport averaged 11 points per game over his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he earned MEAC Player of the Week honors as well as being named to the conferences’ All-Tournament team.

Since graduating from UMES, Davenport has returned to the university as a coach. Currently, he is in his eighth season as an assistant coach for the Lady Hawks’ softball. Davenport helped lead the softball team to their first winning season since 1996, when the Lady Hawks posted a 20-18 record in 2008-2009.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore honored Davenport’s achievements, on and off the field, by inducting him into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2008.
