David Whigham joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in August 2011 and serves as the Assistant Director of Media Relations. He is the contact for baseball, men's basketball and golf.
Whigham has seven years of experience in athletic media relations. He began as a Sports Information Student Assistant at Virginia Wesleyan College in 2006, before serving as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant at Salisbury University in 2008. Whigham also was a Media Relations Intern with the Norfolk Admirals (American Hockey League) in 2007.
The Ocean City, Md., native also has six years of professional baseball experience. After four years of collegiate baseball, Whigham signed with the El Paso Diablos of the American Association in 2008. The right-handed pitcher played with El Paso until 2011, before he signed with the Chico Outlaws of the North American League.
After Chico, Whigham played with three different teams in the Frontier League in 2012. He spent last season with the Stockerau Cubs of the Austrian Baseball League. His career also includes two years of winter baseball in Australia for the Essendon Bombers (Vodafone Baseball League) and the Melbourne Aces (Australian Baseball League).
Whigham graduated with a Masters of Education from Salisbury University in 2012. Prior to that, he recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in 2008. He resides in Salisbury, Md.
