UMES ANNOUNCES NEW RADIO BROADCAST PARTNERS FOR 2011-2012 BASKETBALL SEASON

Hawks Radio Network will work with SFM Sports for all men's and women's basketball games

Dave Vatz joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in September 2010 and serves as the assistant director of broadcasting & media relations. He is the play-by-play for Hawks baseball, volleyball and women's basketball as well the studio host for the men's basketball radio broadcast. He also serves in the media relations department as the contact for volleyball, baseball, men's tennis and golf.

Vatz has spent the last five years calling baseball in the state of Maryland. In 2010 he served as the broadcasting and media relations assistant for the Hagerstown Suns, the single-A minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Previously he was the lead broadcaster for the Bethesda Big Train from 2008 to 2009 and the College Park Bombers in 2007 in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League.

Other than working for UMES, Vatz has served as a public address announcer and scorekeeper for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the single-A minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. In addition he is a freelance writer for Inside Lacrosse, a monthly magazine based out of Baltimore.

Vatz is a graduate of University of Maryland, College Park. Before getting his degree in 2009 in journalism and history, he broadcast with WMUC Sports, the student run radio station, for four years. He called various contests including football, men's and women's basketball, soccer, lacrosse and baseball.
