G. Stan Bradley
Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs/

G. Stan Bradley came on board as Sports Information Director (SID) for the Hawks' athletic staff in July of 2001. Since then, he has been working to build a relationship with local and extended media across the Eastern Shore and surrounding areas. Bradley has brought many new and creative ideas to UMES to further enhance its marketing and visibility throughout the community.

In 2003, Bradley was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs. In that capacity, he maintained his duties as the SID but took on many other tasks, including: development, advertising, fundraising, facility operations and game day operations.

Bradley versees design of all departmental publications and promotional materials, is responsible for the department's website, solicits many external events to come to the campus and acts as a liason with local organizations and businesses, including the Convention and Visitor's Association in nearby Salisbury, Md.

During his time at UMES, he has redesigned the website twice, overseen the creation of a new athletic logo series, expanded the sports information staff, created broadcast agreements on local radio for men and women's basketball and baseball, started live video and audio streaming of many home events and reached sponsorship deals with area hotels, car dealers, bottling companies and restaurants.

However, he states that his greatest accomplishments are the staff he has hired and trained who have gone on to hold a variety of positions in various athletic organizations. These include The University of Massachusetts, University of Akron, University of Louisville, Howard University and the Buffalo Bisons AAA baseball club.

Prior to his current position at UMES, Bradley worked at the University of Maryland College Park with Campus Recreation Services as the Coordinator of Student Personnel/Training. He has also served at Salisbury University as the Public Relations Associate from 1997-98. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Maryland and two master's degrees, one in Human Resource Management and the other in Business Administration, both from the University of Maryland University College.

He works in part-time capacities with the Delmarva Shorebirds baseball club, an affilliate of the Baltimore Orioles, as their official scorer. He also works with Wicomico Coutny, Md. in a variety of roles with athletic events including the Holiday Basketball Tournament and DIII baseball regional, and is a 10-year veteran of high school basketball officiating.

Bradley lives in Laurel, Del., with his wife Jennie, son Carter and their two dogs, Zenna and Febo.

 

 

Tyler Birnbaum
Sports Information Assistant

Tyler Birnbaum is in his second year as Sports Information Assistant at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

His responsibilities include assisting with the publicity and public relations for the university's 15 Division I sports. In addition to serving as the primary contact for several sports, he assists in editing and designing of department publications, statistical compilation, game-day duties and media coordination.

Birnbaum, a native of Plainfield, Vt., is a 2008 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H. He earned a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Sport Management and minor in Communications Studies.

Birnbaum spent two-and-a-half years in the Colby-Sawyer Sports Information Office as an intern and student assistant. He worked the summers of 2007 and 2008 with the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League as a media relations intern, producing comprehensive game notes and acting as the team's official scorer.

He covered the University of Vermont men's hockey team for U.S. College Hockey Online and several regional college hockey print publications from 2002-08, and interned in the UVM Office of Athletic Communications in 2002.

Birnbaum is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America, the Black College Sports Information Directors Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

 

 

Maggie Hayon
Sports Information Assistant

Maggie Hayon joined the UMES Athletic Department in August 2009. She will be responsible for developing publications and promotional materials while looking to further enhance the Hawks' role in the community. Additionally, she will increase the Hawk fan base by using social-media tools.

Hayon graduated from Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wis.) in May 2008 with a B.A. in Public Relations and minor in Marketing. During her four years at MU, she worked in Golden Eagles Athletic Department as an administrative student assistant and game-day staff.

Additionally, she spent two summers with the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club as a Media Relations Intern (2006) and Community Relations Intern (2007). Upon graduation, she accepted a position as the Media Relations Assistant for Minor League Baseball's Eugene Emeralds, where she wrote and produced game-day programs and player/coach trading cards, executed on-field promotions and handled daily fan interactions. She continues to volunteer her time with Brewers Charities, Inc.

Prior to joining the staff at UMES, Hayon spent eight months nannying for two families and babysitting for three other families, all in the Milwaukee area.

She is a native of Howards Grove, Wis.

 

 

Media Information

The Office of Media Relations is located in room 1101 of the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of The University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The primary purpose is to bridge the gap between media and coaches/players. all efforts will be made to accommodate the interests of those wishing to cover Hawk Athletics.

Individuals from newspapers, magazines and television stations wishing to photograph a UMES event should contact the Office of Media Relations prior to the start of each contest. No Flash Photography.

Player Interviews top
Interviews with UMES student-athletes must be arranged at least 24 hours in advance through the Office of Media Relations. They will be scheduled before or after practices. If practice times are not sufficient, we will reschedule at the student-athlete's convenience. Phone interviews can be conducted through the SID. On game days, interviews will not be available until afterward outside the locker room and/or press room. A 10-minute cooling down period will be strictly enforced.

Coaches Interviews top
Interviews with the head coach and members of the coaching staff should be arranged through the Office of Media Relations. They will be scheduled before or after practices. If practice times are not sufficient, we will reschedule at the coach's convenience. Phone interviews can be conducted through the SID. No interviews will be granted before the contest on game day. After the game, players and coaches will be available to the media after a 10-minute cooling off period, in the designated media area.

Hawk Eye video streaming returns this season bigger and better than ever thanks to an agreement with allinbroadcasting.com. UMES fans, friends and family will be able to watch all home basketball, baseball and volleyball contests live on the official website of Hawk Athletics, umeshawks.com, free of charge.

This season the live video streaming will be paired with the play-by-play action from Nick Anastos. Fans can still just hear the audio coverage of the events. Future events may be video or audio only and will be clearly marked on the respective teams' schedule. UMES posts the games covered on its broadcast schedule and the front page.
