During the 2014-15 athletic season, the Hawks Radio Network will air broadcasts of UMES Men's basketball, Women's Basketball, Volleyball and Baseball.  Doug Newton will deliver the play-by-play.

For the 2014-15 season, the Hawks will work with SFMSports.Net to bring fans every men's and women's basketball, volleyball and baseball game. In addition, all Hawks men's basketball games will air live on WAMS-FM 101.1 in Snow Hill and WQMR-AM 1590 in Ocean City, plus select games will be aired in Baltimore and D.C. markets.

Doug Newton, Director of Broadcasting

Doug Newton joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in September 2013. Newton currently serves as the play-by-play announcer for Hawks men's and women's basketball. He has previously broadcasted Hawks baseball and volleyball. In addition to his radio duties, Newton assists with media relations, serving as the sports information contact for men's basketball.

Newton also works as the Director of Broadcasting for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, located in nearby Salisbury. Prior to joining UMES, Newton spent the previous two years in minor league baseball. Newton worked for the Clinton LumberKings (Class-A, Seattle Mariners) in the Midwest League as the Broadcasting and Media Relations Assistant. In 2012, the Baltimore native worked in a similar role with the Aberdeen IronBirds (Short Season-A, Baltimore Orioles) in the New York-Penn League.

Newton graduated from Princeton University in 2012. During college, he broadcasted Tigers football, men's and women's basketball for the student radio station, WPRB. Newton also hosted a sports talk show for the campus TV station, Princeton Television Network.

David Byrd, Color Analyst

David Byrd, Athletic Director and former men's basketball coach at nearby Pocomoke High School, provides color analysis for UMES hoops broadcasts during home games for a tenth consecutive season. Coach Byrd is one of the winningest basketball coaches in Maryland high school history and possesses a state championship on his resume.
