During the 2011-12 athletic season, the Hawks Radio Network will air broadcasts of UMES Men's basketball, Women's Basketball, Volleyball and Baseball.  Bret Lasky and Dave Vatz will deliver the play-by-play.

This season, Timeless Favorites 540 AM/100.7 FM will be the flagship station for UMES volleyball and women's basketball, airing all matches live. For the 2011-12 season, the Hawks will work with SFM Sports, which will carry all Hawks men's basketball games live on WAMS-FM 101.1 in Snow Hill and WQMR-AM 1590 in Ocean City, plus select games will be aired in Baltimore and D.C. markets.

Bret Lasky, Lead Play-by-Play Broadcaster
Bret Lasky joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in September of 2009. Lasky serves as a play-by-play announcer for Hawks men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and baseball.  He also assists in the daily operation of the media relations department. 

Lasky is also the Director of Broadcasting and Graphic Design for the nearby Delmarva Shorebirds (A-affiliate, Baltimore Orioles). He broadcasts all regular season games and designs all team publications including: pocket schedules, magnet schedules, group brochures and more.

Lasky graduated from the University of Maryland in 2007 with a degree in Journalism.  During his senior season, he served as the Sports Director of WMUC, the student run radio station. Throughout his tenure at Maryland he broadcast Terrapin athletic events, including the NCAA women's basketball national championship game in Boston in 2006.

In 2008, he served as the Assistant Director of Broadcasting and Media for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Advanced-A, Atlanta Braves). 

Lasky's other broadcast credentials include stops with Fayetteville State University, ISP Sports and the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Dave Vatz, Assistant Director of Broadcasting & Media Relations
Dave Vatz joined the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in September 2010 and serves as the assistant director of broadcasting & media relations. He is the play-by-play for Hawks baseball, volleyball and women's basketball as well the studio host for the men's basketball radio broadcast. He also serves in the media relations department as the contact for volleyball, women's basketball and baseball.

Vatz has spent the last five years calling baseball in the state of Maryland. In 2010 he served as the broadcasting and media relations assistant for the Hagerstown Suns, the single-A minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Previously he was the lead broadcaster for the Bethesda Big Train from 2008 to 2009 and the College Park Bombers in 2007 in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League.

Other than working for UMES, Vatz has served as a public address announcer and scorekeeper for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the single-A minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. In addition he is a freelance writer for Inside Lacrosse, a monthly magazine based out of Baltimore.

Vatz is a graduate of University of Maryland, College Park. Before getting his degree in 2009 in journalism and history, he broadcast with WMUC Sports, the student run radio station, for four years. He called various contests including football, men's and women's basketball, soccer, lacrosse and baseball.

David Byrd, Color Analyst
David Byrd, Athletic Director and former men's basketball coach at nearby Pocomoke High School, provides color analysis for UMES hoops broadcasts during home games for an eighth consecutive season. Coach Byrd is one of the winningest basketball coaches in Maryland high school history and possesses a state championship on his resume.

Randy Scott, Fill-In Play-by-Play Announcer
Randy Scott, the former play by play voice of the Delmarva Shorebirds, a South Atlantic League baseball team, serves as a fill-in color analyst or play-by-play man. A familiar voice to Hawks fans, Scott was the public address announcer for home games at the Hytche Center five seasons ago. He currently serves as a program director for ClearChannel in Salisbury.
