Nick Anastos, Director of Broadcasting for Athletics, Play-by-Play Announcer
In the 2007-08 season The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) was proud to announce the appointment of Nick Anastos as Director of Broadcasting for Athletics. With the position, Anastos became the new play-by-play voice of the Hawks and supervised all broadcasts on the radio and internet.

Anastos returns for the 2009-10 season as the voice of The Hawk Radio Network, calling all the action for men's and women's basketball, volleyball and basbeall boradcasts on the radio and the web.

Anastos, 27, comes to UMES with a 2005 degree in Broadcast Journalism from Hofstra University. There he was the play-by-play voice for the Pride, broadcasting for WRHU 88.7 and covering men and women's basketball, football, lacrosse, baseball and softball. Anastos also hosted a weekly sports show and remote coach's show. In addition to Hofstra, Anastos called the 2005 CAA men's basketball tournament for Serius Satellite Radio.

"Nick has done some very impressive things in his broadcast career and he will be a good fit for UMES," said G. Stan Bradley, Assistant Director of Athletics for External Aff airs. "We plan to broadcast more sports this season beside men and women's basketball and Nick's versatility will pay off ."

Anastos replaced Ben Wagner, who was with the school for one year. He left to take over the play-by-play of the Buffalo Bisons, a Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians in Buffalo, N.Y.

More recently, Anastos was a local correspondent for WGAM 900 in Nashua, N.H. He also served as play-by-play announcer for D-II Bentley College, covering football and basketball for NE-10 TV. The past 2007 baseball season Anastos was the play-by-play man for the Nashua Pride, an independent baseball club.

"I am excited to be here and thrilled over the opportunity. I am anxious to get the season underway, There's nothing quite like D-I athletics. The atmosphere is special. I am enthusiastic about traveling again as well. This should be a great season," said Anastos.

Bret Lasky, Play-by-Play Broadcaster/Sports Information
Bret Lasky joins the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics Department in September of 2009. Lasky will serve as a play-by-play announcer for Hawks men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and baseball.  He will also assist in the daily operation of the media relations department.

During the off season, Lasky serves as the one of the play-by-play voices for the nearby Delmarva Shorebirds (A-affiliate, Baltimore Orioles).  He also assists in the media relations department for the Shorebirds.

Lasky graduated from the University of Maryland in 2007 with a degree in Journalism.  During his senior season, he served as the Sports Director of WMUC, the student run radio station.  Throughout his tenure at Maryland, he broadcasted Terrapin athletic events.  In 2006, he called the NCAA women's basketball national championship game in Boston.

In 2008, he served as the Assistant Director of Broadcasting and Media for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Advanced-A, Atlanta Braves).

Lasky's other broadcast credentials include stops with Fayetteville State University, ISP Sports and the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

David Byrd, Color Analyst
David Byrd, Athletic Director and former men's basketball coach at nearby Pocomoke High School, provides color analysis for UMES hoops broadcasts during home games for a sixth consecutive season. Coach Byrd is one of the winningest basketball coaches in Maryland high school history, and possesses a state championship on his resume.

Randy Scott, Asst. Dir. of Broadcasting for Athletics; Color Analyst and Play-by-Play Announcer
Randy Scott, the play by play voice of the nearby Delmarva Shorebirds, a South Atlantic League baseball team, will be a part of several UMES basketball broadcasts in 2009-10, serving as either a color analyst or fill-in play-by-play man. A familiar voice to Hawks fans, Scott was the public address announcer for home games at the Hytche Center four seasons ago.
