UMES CHEERLEADERS PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING EVENT
April 16, 2012
Princess Anne, Md. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Cheerleaders participated in the MDM-2012 MD Walk Event in Ocean City, Maryland to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis research and funding on April 14.
"It was an honor for the UMES cheerleaders to participate in this event," said head coach Dee Artis.
The event is held by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society which funds research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move forward. This is the 24th year of the walk which has raised over one million dollars last year alone.
The UMES cheerleaders presented each participant with gifts as they walked along the event route. They also shouted words of encouragement during the walk and as participants crossed the finish line.
Smantha Flottemesch, the special events coordinator looked forward to having UMES cheer on the participants. She thanked both coach Artis, and advisor Colleen Dean for the UMES' presences at the walk.
"It allows the students to give back to a worthy cause and gives the university exposure within the community," said Artis. "It was also a fun event to do."
