PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is pleasd to announce that Deedra A. Morley-Artis has been named the new cheerleading coach.
Morley-Artis is the former co-owner of the Grand National Championship and World Championship Cheer Quake All Stars. She is widely known in the competition arena for her extensive knowledge of hip hop dance and innovative cheer routine style.
Morley-Artis was born and raised in Philadephia, Penn. She attended the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart and participated in cheerleading throughout her attendance. While attending Howard University's School of Architecture and Planning, she continued to work with many cheer and dance teams in the Philadelphia area.
She reentered the coaching area as the head coach of the East Glen Burnie Warriors cheer team and the Pioneers in Action, a recreation cheer team. Morley-Artis led the development of the Pioneers in Action cheer team to become a championship all star competitive cheer team referred to as Pioneer Spirit All Stars.
In addition to the numerous competition awards and accolades, both Morley-Artis and her husband, Leroy, were honored by American Cheer and Dance Academy as the 2007 Coaches of the Year. Cheer Quake All Stars is also known for its dedication to the participants' pursuit toward post secondary education and generously awarded numerous scholarships for such pursuits.
Further, she holds several major cheerleading safety and training certifications including AACCA-3X. She also possesses national level competition judging certifications.
Morley-Artis is the owner of ENCORE! Cheer and Dance Championships (ECDC) while continuing her career as a Home Builders Association of Maryland award winning residential designer.
Morley-Artis will serve in a volunteer capacity at UMES.
She and her husband have one daughter who is pursuing a college education.
