HAWKS A HALF POINT SHY OF TAKING MEAC'S ALL SPORTS AWARD

Seventy six and a half points is what the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) tallied in the race for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Mary McLeod Bethune Women's All-Sports Award. That is out of a possible 96 points, a pretty good score for a successful women's program. It was, unfortunately for the Lady Hawks' athletic teams, a half point short. JAMES, FOTHERGILL QUALIFY PROVISIONALLY FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior Merrecia James (Portland, Jamaica) and junior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore track and field team earned provisional qualifying spots in the NCAA indoor track and field championship at the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center Friday and Saturday.
