JOHNSON CITY, TN - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track and field team competed in their third meet of the year, participating in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennesee State on January 21, 2005 and January 22, 2005. Sophomore distance runner Eva Slavikova won the women's mile run, garnering her third individual title in as many weeks.

Slavikova finished the event in 5:01, nearly 11 seconds above the second place finisher. She now owns the top time in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) this year, with the second highest finish trailing by 13 seconds.

Other notables include NCAA provisional qualifier Petagay O'Connor finishing seventh in the triple jump, and senior Deborah Meadows taking third in the 800m run with a time of 2:20. O'Connor, who provisionally qualified for the NCAA's during the first week of track and field action, jumped 12.09 meters to take seventh in her event.

Senior Barnabas Togom and freshman Clayton James also ran well, each finishing in the top 10 of their respected events. Togom took eighth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:34, while James placed 10th, running the 800m in 1:53.

The Hawks will next travel to State College, PA to participate in the Penn State National Open on January 28 and January 29.
