State College, PA - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's men and women's teams headed to State College, PA to compete in the U.S. Coaches Association Indoor Track Meet sponsored by Penn State. The Hawks recorded several outstanding preformances including setting a new UMES record when freshman Eva Slavikova ran 5:05.19 in the mile, good enough for seventh place overall. Other outstanding preformances on the Lady Hawk's side included freshman Shakira Robinson taking 12th place in the 200 meter dash, and an outstanding UMES showing in the 400 meter dash with Alyssa Walker taking second place (56.28)and Schachia Murphy grabbing 11th place. In the 800 meter run Debroah Meadows took eighth pace with a time of 2:16.43. In the 60 meter hurdles preliminary round UMES crossed the line in ninth and 18th place respectively with Robinson crossing first (9.00) and Petagay O'Connor next (9.24). The women's 4 x 400 meter relay team took home sixth place with a time of (3.56.02) as Meadows, Murphy, Walker, and Chantelle Ringgold moving well. The team of Slavikova, Nashira Rawks, Kori Barrett, and Tasha Century took tenth place in the women's distance medley to help the Hawk cause. In the field events UMES grabbed two top ten finshes in the long jump as Kelly Ann Lue took ninth and Ringgold tenth with distances of 5.47 and 5.32 meters respectively. O'Connor took thrid in the triple jump with a distance of 11.96 meters.
In the men's events Gareth Burrows took 17th in the 400 meter dash while Damion Drummond took 18th in the mile run with a time of 4.25.19. Barnabus Togom was one of the Hawk high finishers taking fifth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.21. In the 60 meter hurdles final Ronnie Beard took fifth place with 8.34 seconds. In team events the men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Togom, Drummond, bear, and Justin Head took ninth with a time of 3:20.06. Joseph Hylton took a top ten finish in the high jump with a height of 1.91 meters while Beard took eighth in the long jump with 6.68 meters.
The Hawks return to Penn State next weekend looking for another strong showing. |
