State College, PA - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had some outstanding preformances this past weekend at Penn State, none of which could overshadow freshman Eva Slavikova's preformance in the 3,000 meter run. Slavikova ran 9:48.50, a new MEAC record. "I keep forgetting she is just a freshman," said Head Coach Ernest Barrett. "She ran under ten, that is quite an achievement," he added. Fellow Lady Hawks also had great preformacnes with Kelia Williams (55.74), Alyssa Walker (56.11), and Schachia Murphy (58.34) taking sixth, ninth, and 24th places respectively in the 400 meter dash. One-hundred meters more, the 500 meter dash, saw Evelynn Mendoza take eighth place with 1:17.16. In team competiton the women's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Murphy, Medoza, Walker, and Debroah Meadows took home ninth place (3:51.85). Petegay O'Connor had a good day on the field taking sixth place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.78 meters.
On the men's side the Fighting Hawks saw great preformances from in the 800 meter run with Damion Drummond running away with second place (1:51.09). Ronnie Beard had some great finihes (15th, 22.09) in the 200 meter dash and a 16th place finish (8.31) in the 60 meter hurdles. Barnabas Togom (20th, 4:18.73) in the mile run and 22nd in the 500 meter run (15:08.51). The relay team (Drummond, Joseph Hylton, Justin Head, and Gareth Burrowes) took home 11th with a time of 3:19.42. In field compettion Beard was strong finishing eighth in the triple jump (14.09 meters). Also in field competion Hylton took eighth in the high jump (1.95 meters) and Kimani Kirton was seventh in the shot put (15.67 meters).
The Hawks are home next weekend hosting the annual Hawk Games in preperation for the St. Valentine's Invitational in Boston on the 14th. |
