On the men's side, Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.) won his heat of the 400-meter championship in 49.42.
The Hawks also took their section of the 4x400-meter relay in 3:16.38 with Keane-Dawes, Paul Jones-Burden (Rahway, N.J.), Ahkeem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) and Corey Alexander (Orange, N.J.) taking home the title.
Both UMES track and field teams travel to the Landover, Md. for the MEAC Championships next weekend at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
"We are set and ready for the MEAC Championships this week and the team is looking good going into the meet," said UMES head coach Ernest Barrett. "Our team is missing some key components, but we should finish in the top half of the conference for both teams."
