LANDOVER, Md. - Senior Saisha Woodward (Atlanta, Ga.) finished third in the women's weight throw on Day 1 of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.

Woodward's mark of 14.49 meters (47 feet, 6.5 inches) led a group of the three Lady Hawks in the event and helped UMES to second place in the overall standings after the first day of competition.

Woodward earned six points, followed by freshman Vanessa Henry (Capital Heights, Md.), who was fifth with a throw of 13.66 meters for four points. Sophomore Jocelyn Wheeler (Temple Hills, Md.) rounded out the UMES scorers with a toss of 13.22 meters, good for six place and three points.

Morgan State's Allison Randall won the event win a mark of 16.15 meters (53 feet).

The UMES men failed to score in the weight throw. The top Hawk in the field was freshman Harrison Agbor-Eyong (Farmington, Minn.) in 10th with a mark of 12.04 meters. Junior James Moore (Manassas, Va.) finished 15th with a throw of 11.09 meters.

Anthony Napoleon won the men's weight throw with a mark of 15.19 meters (49 feet, 10 inches. Morgan leads the women's completion (19 points) and men's with points.

Competition continues Friday with the men's heptathlon and women's shot put. Other field events include the men's and women's long jump, men's pole vault final, and women's high jump. The afternoon continues with the men's and women's 800, 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, 200 and 400. The men's and women's distance medley relay will close out the day.
