Princess Anne, Md. --Seven University of Maryland Eastern Shore Indoor Track and Field student-athletes placed in the top 10 after day one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships Thursday. The meet will continue Friday and Saturday.

Lenora Firmin-Guion finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.86. Teammate Hana Jiraskova placed in the top 15 with her time of 20:12.49 in the 5,000-meter run. Geranda Williams had a best jump of 5.08-meters the long jump.

Andre Walsh ran a 21.72 qualifying time in the 200-meter dash, while Marcus Wallace ran a 22.36 in the same event. Damian Miles finished in a time of 22.89 for the Hawks.

Basil Melek finished in the top 10 of the 5,000-meter run, placing sixth with a time of 15:07.64. Owen Cain took second with a best jump of 6.86-meter in the long jump.

Jermol Dix had a strong performance in the heptathlon a he finished first in the shot put and long jump. Dix tossed an 11.42-meter shot, and jumped a distance of 6.34-meters. He finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.27 seconds. In the high jump he finished fourth with a 1.80-meter jump.

The Hawks will return to the championships Friday and Saturday.
