Feb. 19, 2005 LANDOVER, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) indoor track and field team completed the first day of competition at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships. Dwayne Robinson and Ronnie Beard finished first and second in the men's preliminary 60m hurdles and qualified for the final round, while the women took first in the distance medley, wining the event in a dramatic come from behind victory. Barnabas Togom anchored the men's distance medley team, guiding them to a second place finish while junior Christopher Morrison took home an individual title, winning the men's high jump. On the women's side, senior Deborah Meadows took third in the women's 800m run while junior Shakira Robinson qualified for the final round of the 60m dash, finishing the event in 7.66. After five events the Fighting Hawks are currently third in the team rankings, trailing Florida A&M (FAMU) and Hampton. The Lady Hawks stand in fourth place, finishing the day with 21 points. The championships will conclude on Saturday, February 19 with the first event scheduled for 11:00am.
