PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Junior Danieth Pryce had a record setting performance on the last day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships Saturday afternoon. Pryce set a new mark in the 60m dash with her first place finish, edging out Hampton's Kelli Wells with a time of 7.32. Wells had broken the record during day one with her time of 7.33. Pryce's time also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Tanesha Wisdom took seventh in the 200m dash finals with her time of 25.52 and later went on to finish eighth in the 400m finals. Freshman Janeth Chelangat took fourth in the 3000m run while Petagay O'Connor took home a bronze metal in the triple jump with a leap of 12.19m (39.9 feet). Sherita Harriott grabbed two points for the Lady Hawks with her seventh place finish in the women's pentathlon. On the men's side, junior Ronnie Beard took home a eighth place finish in the 400m dash while teammate William McCollough took fourth in the same event.. Beard later went on to finish fourth in the 200m. Beard also took home a third place finish in the 60m hurdles with his time of 7.97 seconds while Dwayne Robinson edged his teammate with his second place finish of 7.95 seconds. The 4x400m relay team of McCollough, Clayton James, Mikel Thomas and Christopher Dawkins took home six points for UMES with their third place finish.
Junior Alfred Singeoi grabbed third place in the mile run with a time of 4:21 while James earned two points for the Hawks with his seventh place finish in the same event. Singeoi later took home a fourth place finish in the 5000m run. In field events, junior Christopher Morrison took home a silver medal in the high jump with a leap of 2.03m (6.6 feet) while Beard took fourth in the triple jump with his distance of 14.66m (48.1 feet). Freshman Jamahl Strachan added to the team totals with his seventh place finish in the men's heptathlon. In day one action, Dionne Wright took first in the women's shot put and grabbed 10 points for UMES in the team totals while O'Connor and Harriott finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the women's high jump and grabbed seven team points for UMES. The women's distance medley team of Wisdom, Chelangat, Kathare Mundit and Sherie Brown took seventh in 12.54. The men's distance medley team of McCollough, James, Singoei and Geoffrey Rutto grabbed six team points for UMES with their third place finish while Strachan took home a sixth place finish in the pole vault. As a team the Fighting Hawks finished fourth with 68.5 points while the Lady Hawks took home 45 points, good for a fifth place finish. The teams are off for two weeks, competing in their last indoor meet of the season on March 4 at Virginia Tech's Last Chance Invite. |
