BLACKSBURG, VA. - The UMES track and field team wrapped up their season Saturday with a trip to Virginia Tech's Last Chance Invite. Although the Hawks did not have any new qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, they still had several strong performances at Rector Field House.

Junior Danieth Pryce took third in the women's 60m dash with her finish of 7.49 seconds and later finished fourth in the 200m dash in 24.29. Her mark in the 200m dash set a new school record. Cierra Layne took eighth in the same event in 25.28 seconds. Dionne Wright was fifth in the women's shot put with her throw of 14 meters (45-11 feet).

Mikel Thomas crossed men's 60m dash in 7.05 seconds, good for eighth place, and later finished seventh in the 200m dash. William McCollough took fifth in the 400m dash with his 48.92 finish.

Ronnie Beard finished second in the 60m hurdles with his NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.90 seconds while the men's 4x400m team took first in 3:18. Beard first provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at Penn State's Invite on January 27. He took second place in that meet in 7.88 seconds.

Beard, Pryce, Dwayne Robinson (60m hurdles), Kimani Kirton (shot put) and Jason Daley (long jump) have all provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and will find out this week if their marks are good enough for the event. The rest of the track team gets back in action in two weeks when they open their outdoor season at the 49er Classic on March 16.
