Merrecia James provisionally qualified for NCAA's in the women's 800m run

NOTRE DAME, IND. - Tanisha Wisdom and Merrecia James each qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships at the Alex Wilson Invitational this past weekend in Notre Dame, Indiana. Several other Hawks had outstanding finishes at the two day event, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

Tanisha Wisdom took first in both the 200m and 400m run and provisionally qualified for for NCAA's in the latter, setting a new school record with her time of 53.61 seconds. That mark currently ranks her 17th in the nation in the event. She fell just shy of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in the 200m run when she crossed the line in 23.91.

Freshman Merrecia James took third in the 800m run with her provisionally qualifying time of 2:08.41. That time also set a new UMES mark.

The Fighting Hawks saw three of their own set new school records as well. Kimani Kirton won the men's shot put with a throw of 18.33 meters (60-01.75 feet) while Jason Daley took fourth in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.16 meters (23-06.00 feet). Ronnie Beard finished seventh in the 60m hurdles in 8.09 seconds.
