PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --Second-year student-athlete Dillon Simon tossed an IC4A qualifying distance in the shot put for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday. Simon threw a distance of 16.10 meters to win gold in the event and qualify for the IC4A.

The Hawks had six student-athletes earn top 10 places, including Simon. UMES will return to competition January 4 for the UMES Collegiate Invitational.

Rico Duncan had a toss of 13.43m to finish in the top 10 in the shot put. Rico Taylor and Denvil Ruan also finished in the top 10 of their respective jump events. Taylor had a best jump of 2.10 meters in the high jump, while Ruan jumped a distance of 6.42 meters in the long jump.

Aaron Chatman, Codjo Gbedo and Donohue Williams round out the UMES top 10 finishers. Chatman ran to a 49.79-second finish in the 400m dash. Gbedo finished the 800m run in a time of 2:00.19. Williams finished the 1,000m with his time of 4:23.19.

The Hawks will continue to practice, taking a brief time away from the track for finals and the holiday season, then return for its home meet Friday, January 4.
