VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) senior track standout Tanisha Wisdom (St. Catherine, Jamaica/G.C. Foster) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week the league announced today. Wisdom, in just her second meet of the season, took home three first place finishes. She took the gold in the 60-meter dash with a qualifying time of 7.85 and finish time of 7.91, in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.66 and in the 4x400-meter relay, running the anchor leg of the team that tallied a time of 4:00.50. Her 24.66 in the 200-metere dash is the second fastest in the conference this season. No team scoring was kept in the UMES Coach O Collegiate Invitational hosted on the campus of UMES, but as a program the Fighting and Lady Hawks tallied eight first place finishes with Wisdom responsible, at least in part, for three of them. The MEAC also listed freshmen star Paul Jones-Burden as an `other top performer' for his performance at the meet. Jones-Burden won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.35 in a field of 17 runners and helped the men's 4x400-meter relay team take a second place finish. Norfolk State's Corey Vinston was named the MEAC male track and field athlete of the week for running an NCAA provisional time of 6.69 in the 60-metere dash and winning the long jump against collegiate competitors at a meet at George Mason. UMES is back in action this weekend in New York at the Fordham Invitational.
