PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior Lenora Guion-Firmin (La Trinite Martinique) and junior Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 23. This is the second consecutive week that Walsh has been honored with the award, while Guion-Firmin receives it for the first time.

Guion-Firmin posted three first-place finishes and one second to lead the UMES women's indoor track team to a runner-up finish at the Great Dane Classic in New York, N.Y., this past Friday. She placed second in the 60m preliminary (7.82), before posting the best time of all runners in the 60m finals with a 7.61 finish. She then went on to finish second overall with a 24.30 time in the 200m finals. Her fantastic day was capped off when she teamed up with three others to win the 4 x 400m relay in 3:45.67. The women's team finished the event with 95 points and Guion-Firmin was responsible for 27 of those points.

Walsh collects his second consecutive award behind another fantastic showing for the men's indoor track team. Walsh won every event that he participated in on the day, beginning with the top-finish in the 60m preliminary (6.90). He went on to win the 60m finals with a 6.82 finish, before thrashing the rest of the competition with another first in the 200m finals (21.17). He won his fourth race of the day in the 4 x 400m relay, when he was a part of a squad that finished in 3:13.90. The men's team finished the event with 76 points, 30 of which came from Walsh's finishes.

The indoor track teams will stay in New York, N.Y., for their next meet as they compete in the Collegiate Series/Millrose Games beginning on Saturday, Jan. 28.
