Princess Anne, Md.--The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Indoor Track & Field teams were recently ranked in the top three of the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association for the week of January 23. The UMES women's team was ranked No. 2 by the association, while the men were No. 3.

The rankings are the highest for either UMES Track & Field team. Four meets into the season, several players have broken and set new UMES records. Other players have recorded season bests and set new meet records.

Vanessa Henry is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation in the shot put. With a distance of 16.50-meters Henry set a new meet and UMES record, as well as a personal best throw. Henry also set a meet, UMES and personal best toss in the weight throw with her distance of 19.73m.

In three consecutive meets she has improved with hard-work and the help of assistant coach Curtley Bynoe.

"Coach Bynoe has done an amazing job with our throwers," said head coach Ernest Barrett. Lexia Robinson and Imani Cox tossed personal best distances in the shot.

Every aspect of the Hawks is showing success. In sprint events, the women's 4x400m relay team set a Great Dane Classic meet record of 3:45.67.
