UMES HAS TRACK & FIELD QUALIFIERS FOR IC4A/ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had 20 track and field student-athletes qualify for IC4A/ECAC championships, and both its men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams. IC4A/ECAC Championships will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, March 1-3.

UMES has 10 student-athletes competing in sprint events, three in middle distance contests, one in long distance, two in the triple jump, and four in throwing events. The Hawks' Andre Walsh (6.78, 21.38, and 49.03), Gayon Evans (7.37, 24.33, and 56.22) and Lenora Guion-Firmin (7.60, 23.90, and 53.38) will each compete in the 60m, 200m and 400m dash events. Ramone Waite (6.97) will join Walsh in the 60m dash.

Evans has the 18th best time in the country in the 60m dash. Her 7.37-second finish, which she set at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games is a personal best in the event. Guion-Firmin is ranked 36th in the 200m with her 23.90-second time, and 12th in the 400m dash.

Dwayne Powell (21.73), Marcus Wallace (22.01) and Javon Spencer (22.17) will run the 200m dash, while Aaron Chatman (48.91), Zavior Brown (48.93) and Annis Mars (56.84) compete in the 400m for the Hawks. Mars (1:15.52) will join teammate Emilie Ducados (2:12.22) in the 500m run. Brown will return to the track to run the 800m (1:51.87).

 

 

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship first-place winner, Petra Kubesova, will compete in the mile run (4:58.01), 3,000 (9:43.90) and 5,000-meter (17:18.99) events. Denvil Ruan (14.70m) and Geranda Williams (12.17m) will each compete in the triple jump, while Dillon Simon (17.40m), Imani Cox (14.27m) and Lexia Robinson (14.54m) look to medal in the shot put.

George Chandler (14.44m), Cox (18.10m), Robinson (18.88m) and Simon (14.65m) will also compete in the weight throw. The Hawks will compete in the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships February 14-16 in Landover, Maryland.
