PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Maryland-Eastern Shore junior Ronnie Beard (Frederick, Md./Frederick H.S.) has qualified for this weekend's USA Track and Field (USATF) Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts. The championships, the final event of USATF's Indoor Visa Championship Series, will be held Feb. 24-26 at Roxbury Community College's Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. Beard is one of only two collegiate athletes to qualify for the men's 60m hurdles.

Beard made an enormous impact this season as he is among the team leaders in hurdles while asserting himself as a force in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Frederick, Maryland native set a personal record at Penn State on January 27 with his second place finish in 7.88 seconds in 60m hurdles.

That mark provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Championships and also earned him a spot at the USATF Indoor Championships.

Beard was ranked 15th in the nation in the NCAA 60M Hurdle Rankings on February 1. He also owns the second highest conference time this season, trailing teammate Dwayne Robinson for first place honors.

The concluding event of USATF's Indoor Visa Championship Series, the AT&T USA Indoor Track & Field Championships is the world's oldest indoor track championship, with the first meet being held in 1888 in New York.
