PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Merrecia James (Portland, Jamaica) and junior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 8.

James and Fothergill provisionally qualified to compete in the 800 and 400 meters at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M March 13-14.

James finished eighth in the 800 in 2:08.62 to slip under the qualification standard by less than four tenths of a second in the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame Ind. Fothergill was third in the 400 in 46.75, half a second below what he needed to advance to the championships in College Station, Texas.

James and Fothergill were two of 95 competitors to earn NCAA-qualifying marks at the meet.
