Results

WILMINGTON, NC - Fresh off of an impressive indoor season which saw numerous school and personal records fall, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track & field team wasted no time getting into the outdoor action. The Hawks traveled to Wilmington, NC for the Cape Fear Classic on March 24-25 and performed well amongst the field of teams.

On the women's side, Tanesha Wisdom took first in the 200m dash in 25.16 while Sherie Brown finished first in the 400m dash with her time of 1:00.31. The Lady Hawks had three finish in the top 10 in the 100m dash ,with Shakira Robinson leading a 3-4-5 finish in the event. Wisdom took fourth in 12.38 while Cierra Layne finished fifth with her time of 12.31 seconds.

Layne went on to take third in the 200m dash. Senior Kathare Mundit finished fourth in the 800m run while freshman Janeth Chelangat took fourth in the 1500m run in 5:11.88.

Ariana Forbes finished fourth in the 100m dash in 14.91 seconds while senior Nicole McKenzie took sixth in the same event with her finish of 15.75. Forbes also took home an eighth place finish in the 200m dash.

In field events, junior Sherita Harriott finished first in the long jump with a leap of 5.42m (17.78 feet) while McKenzie took sixth with a jump of 5.12m (16.8 feet). Harriott went on to finish fourth in the javelin.

 

 

Junior Dionne Wright took home a second place finish in the shot put and went on to take third in the javelin. Soledad Maurice had a respectable seventh place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.26m (36.94 feet). Nykesha Roberson's leap of 10.54m (34.58 feet) placed her sixth in the triple jump.

The women's 4x100m relay team took first in 47.05 while the 4x200m team grabbed eight team points and set a new school record with their second place finish of 1.38.

The distance medley team took home a third place finish while the 1600m sprint medley team garnered five points with their fourth place finish in 4.35.

On the men's side, junior Alfred Singoei took third in the 1500m run with a time of 4:10.72 while senior Geoffrey Rutto finished third in the 3000m steeplechase. Junior Dwayne Robinson grabbed third place in the 110m hurdles in 14.94.

In field events, sophomore Jason Daley was the runner up in the long jump with a leap of 6.93m (22.74 feet) while freshman Brandon Eaton took third in the triple jump. Eaton also took home an eighth place finish in the long jump. Jamahl Strachan rounded out the field events for the Fighting Hawks with his eighth place leap in the high jump.

The men's distance medley team grabbed 10 team points for UMES with their first place finish in 10.35 while the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams each took home a third place for the maroon and gray. The men's 1600 sprint medley team garnered fourth place with their time of 3:33.

The Hawks return to action on April 1 at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md.
