GREENSBORO, NC - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men and women's track team were successful in their second outdoor meet of the year, taking home three individual titles at the Aggie Relays on March 24-26.

Sophomore Kimani Kirton led the way with two titles as he took home first place finishes in both the shot put and discus. Kirton, the 2005 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) indoor shot put champion, won his events with throws of 16.26m and 45.26m, respectively.

Barnabas Togom took home another first place finish for the Hawks, winning the 5000m run in 15:22, 40 seconds higher than the second place contender. UMES had two top 10 finishes in the men's 110m hurdles. Dwayne Robinson, UMES' record holder in the event, finished 3rd in 14.64 seconds while sophomore Ronnie Beard took 6th in 14.78.

Beard, the only Hawk to finish in the top 10 in the men's triple jump, also finished 4th in the 400m hurdles. Justin Head and Jeffery Meyers followed Beard in the 400m hurdles, taking home 8th and 9th place finishes, respectively.

The Hawks dominated the men's javlin, with UMES recording four of the top nine finishes in the event. Robinson led the 4-5-6-9 finish, as Frederick Keter finished 5th with a throw of 37.75m and Christopher Morrison took 6th. Bryan Ingram rounded out the top finishers for the Hawks in that event, taking 9th.

Senior Duran Smith finished 9th in the 100m dash preliminaries, while freshman Clayton James took 10th in the 800m run in 1:57.64.

 

 

The women placed four in the top 15 in the 800m run, as Eva Slavikova led a 4-5-8-15 finish in the event. Senior Evelynn Mendoza took 5th, while Pavla Zavoralova and Kathare Mundit finished 8th and 15th respectively.

The Lady Hawks had two finish in the top three in the javelin throw. Zavoralova was the runner up in the event, taking 2nd with a throw of 37.06 while Sherita Harriott finished 3rd.

Senior Candice Ringgold tied for 3rd in the pole vault, while Tiwana Smith finished in the top 10 in two different events, taking 6th in the discus and 9th in the shot put.

The women's 4x200 meter relay team finished 7th while the 4x100 meter relay team of Mendoza, Nicole McKenzie, Petagay O'Connor and Chantelle Ringgold took 9th in 49.18.

The teams are off for two weeks, next traveling to Austin, Texas to participate in Texas Relays April 7-9.
