PETRA KUBESOVA BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN STEEPLECHASE

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --Competing in the Duke Invitational April 4-6 in Durham, North Carolina, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track and Field program earned medals in many of the events it competed. Petra Kubesova broke a UMES record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.81.
Kubesova finished fourth in the event for the Hawks, and had UMES' best finish in any distance event for the women. She also ran in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4:41.97.
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for April 5, Lenora Guion-Firmin, earned silver in the 200-meter dash. She ran a time 23.64 seconds, while teammate Gayon Evans ran a fourth-place time of 23.96.
Evans finished first in the 100-meter dash in 11.72, while Guion-Firmin placed third with a time of 12.04. Ramone Waite finished fourth in the 100m in a time of 10.86. Geranda Williams, Imani Cox, Denvil Ruan and Dillon Simon performed well in their respective field events.
Williams finished fourth in the long jump with a 5.50-meter jump and second in the triple jump with a 12.01-meter finish. Ruan took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.63 meters. Cox and Simon finished third and second, respectively, in the shot put. Cox threw a 15.40m in the event, and 45.33m in the discus.
Simon was named MEAC Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 5, and finished with a toss of 16.57 meters in the shot put.
UMES will return to action April 13 to compete in the George Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia.
