HAWKS MAKE STRONG SHOWING IN PENN INVITATIONAL

Princess Anne, Md. -- Juniors Imani Cox and Lenora Guion-Firmin each notched first place victories in their respective events for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Freshman Dillon Simon recorded two second place finishes in his events for the Hawks in the University of Pennsylvania Invitational.

Cox earned a first place finish in the discus throwing a 39.71-meter toss. She would finish third in the shot put with a toss of 11.87 meters to place two spots behind teammate Vanessa Henry.

Henry continued her successful season in the shot put when she tossed a first place distance of 15.47 meters, marking an IC4A qualifying distance.

Guion-Firmin has continued her success from the indoor championships well into the outdoor season. She marked two first place finishes in the Penn Invitational. Her 200-meter dash time of 23.80 qualified her for IC4A recognition, and returned to the track to sprint an event best 54.86 in the 400-meter dash.

Emilie Ducados finished second in the 400 dash with a time of 56.59, and was one of three Hawks to finish in the top 10. Annis Mars finished sixth in the event with a time of 58.73. Ducados and Guion-Firmin were members of the 4x800-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams, respectively, to record first place finishes.

Cynthia Anais, Latitia Salley, Mars and Ducados ran a 9:06.07 to finish in the top spot of the 4x800-meter relay. Guion-Firmin, Eunice Jones, Melina Gallas and Jennell Wade took first place in 3:46.70 in the 4x400-meter relay.

 

 

Simon notched second place finishes in both the shot put and discus throw. In the shot put he tossed a 15.00-meter put. His best this season is a 16.83-meter toss that he threw in the Towson Invitational. Simon's 46.34-meter discus throw is his best this season.

Andre Walsh registered a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.00 seconds. Teammate Kraig Webb finished third in 21.86.

Basil Melek took fifth place in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:48.97 for the Hawks. Jermol Dix had the Hawks best finish in the jumps events, finishing sixth in the long jump with a 6.19-meter best leap.

UMES will travel to Fairfax, Virginia March 14 to compete in the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University for its upcoming meet.
