CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The UMES track and field team posted multiple top three finishes despite harsh weather conditions at the Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational on April 13-14 in Charlottesville, Va. Danieth Pryce and Dionne Wright each took first in their respective events for the Lady Hawks. Pryce beat out competitors from Virginia, Maryland and Georgetown when she won the 100m dash in 11.88 seconds. Wright took first in the shot put after tossing 13.45m (44'2") while Tanisha Wisdom was first among collegiate competitors in the 400m dash after crossing the line in 55.37. Wisdom also took third in the 200m dash with a finish of 24.85. Other top finishes for the Lady Hawks were freshman Merrecia James, who was second in the 800m run (2:12.04) and fourth in the 1500m run (4:39.47); Sherita Harriott, who was the runner up in the javelin (41.12m or 134'11"); and Sherie Brown, who took sixth in the 200m dash (25.53). Ronnie Beard and Kimani Kirton each won gold for the Hawks on the men's side with Kirton tossing 16.25m (53'4") in the shot put and Beard crossing the line in 53.80 in the 400m hurdles. Beard went on to take fourth in the 110m hurdles in 14.86 while Dwayne Robinson finished not too far behind with his fourth place finish in 14.96. Jason Daley was the runner up in the long jump after leaping 6.88m (22'7") while teammates Jeremiah Hicks and Charles Elmer took seventh and ninth in the same event with leaps of 6.54m (21'6") and 6.44m (21'2"), respectively.
The men's 4x100m relay squad had a good showing and beat out opponents from St. Joe's and VCU with their second place finish in 42.36 seconds while junior Clayton James took seventh in the 800m dash in 1:54.43. Brandon Eaton and James Moore each had good outings in their respective field events with Eaton winning bronze in the triple jump (14.45m or 47'5") and Moore placing sixth in the high jump (1.90m or 6'3"). UMES returns to action on April 21 at Morgan State's Legacy Invitational. |
