BALTIMORE, MD - Four Hawks qualified individually for the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Regional Championship on April 21 at Morgan State's Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md. Tanisha Wisdom won the 400m dash in 53.91 while Merrecia James and Dionne Wright won the 800m run and the shot put, respectively. James won her event and set a new school record in 2:09.55 while Wright took first with a throw of 14.60m (47'11"). Ronnie Beard took first in the 110m hurdles in 14.21 while also qualifying for the Regional Championship. Kimani Kirton improved his NCAA regional qualifying mark in the shot put as he won the event with a season-best throw of 18.37m (60'3"). Kirton also took sixth in the discus (38.52m,126'4") while teammate Matthew Broyles placed fifth with a throw of 40.15m (131'9"). Broyles finished eight in the shot put with a toss of 11.99m (39'4"). Beard had two other top five finishes on the day when he took fourth in the long jump (7.13m, 23'5") and fifth in the triple jump (14.29m, 46'11"). Brandon Eaton (7.02m, 23'), Charles Elmer (6.9m, 22'8") and Jason Daley (6.89m, 22'7") all placed in the top 10 in the long jump while Jeremiah Hicks (14.09m, 46'3") and Eaton (14.05m, 46'1") took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the triple jump. James Moore was third in the high jump with a leap of 1.98m (6'6") while Jamahl Strachan was not too far behind with his sixth place finish (1.88m, 6'02").
On the track, Christopher Dawkins had two top-10 finishes when he placed sixth in the 400m dash in 48.34 and ninth in the 200m dash in 22.11. Clayton James also had a top 10 finish for the Hawks when he finished the 1500m run in 4:04.40, good for seventh overall. The men's 4x400m relay team of Beard, Dawkins, Chris Havrilla and James rounded out top finishes for the men with their fourth place finish in 3:23.51. The Lady Hawks saw Wisdom and Betty Chumbe take runner up honors in the 100m dash and the 1500m run, respectively. Wisdom crossed the line in 11.86 while Chumbe placed second in 4:45.50. Chumbe went on to take seventh in the 800m run in 2:23.59. Sherie Brown had a good outing in the 200m dash with her seventh place finish in 25.18 while the women's 4x400m relay team of Candice Anderson, Brown, Danieth Pryce and Wisdom took third in 3:53.96. In field events, Soledad Maurice took home three top-10 finishes with a fifth place finish in the discus (33.56m, 110'1") and an eight place finish in the shot put (11.55m, 37'11"). The junior from Uniondale, NY also placed 10th in the javelin with a hurl of 12.82m (42'1"). Demetria Staten took 10th in the discus (26.45m, 86'8") while Melanie Durimel was eight in the javelin with a toss of 22.94m (75'3").
