BALTIMORE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track and field teams had a good outing at Morgan State's Legacy Meet on April 22. Alfred Singoei, Jason Daley and Janeth Chelangat all took first in their respective events as both the Fighting and Lady Hawks finished second in the team standings.

Singoei took first in the men's 5000m run in 14:47 and finished as the runner up in the 1500m run with his time of 3:54. Daley took first in the long jump with a leap of 7.62m (25 feet) while Chelangat beat out the nearest competitor by 55 seconds with her first place finish of 18:00 in the women's 5000m run.

Dwayne Robinson and Ronnie Beard finished second and third, respectively, in the men's 110m hurdles. Robinson crossed the line in 13.8 while Beard ran 14.08. Beard also took third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.81 meters (48.6 feet) while Robinson finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 140-00.25 feet.

Mikel Thomas took third in the 400m hurdles in 51.90 while teammate William McCollough took seventh in the 400m dash in 46.90. Geoffrey Rutto also had a top eight finish for the Hawks when he took third in the men's 5000m run.

 

 

The Lady Hawks had a 4-6-7 finish in the 100m dash. Danieth Pryce led the way with a fourth place finish in 11.60 while Shakira Robinson took sixth in 11.70. Cierra Layne finished seventh for maroon and gray, also in 11.70.

Tanesha Wisdom took home a fourth place finish in the 400m dash in 53.00 while Pryce finished seventh in the 200m dash in 24.00. Sherita Harriott placed fifth in both the high jump and long jump with leaps of 1.73 meters (5.7 feet) and 5.87 meters (19.3 feet), respectively.

The women's 4x100m relay team took third in 45.40 while the 4x400m squad also finished third with their time of 3:46. The men's 4x400m relay team took seventh in 3:10.

In field events, freshman Jamahl Strachan second and seventh, respectively, in the high jump and pole vault while Christopher Morrison had four top eight finishes for UMES. Morrison took sixth in the javelin throw and seventh in both the discus and the high jump. He later finished eighth in the shot put. Bryan Ingram took seventh in the same event and also took eighth in the discus.

Both squads finished second in the team standing with 85 points each.

UMES is back in action this week when they compete at the Penn Relays on April 27-29.
