Durham, NC - Competing against top runners in the United States, the UMES Men's and Women's Track and Field teams had great performances at the Duke Invitational in Durham, North Carolina. Eva, Slavikova broke the UMES school record in the 1500m Run, running 4:35.21. She was also a part of the 4X800m Relay (Deborah Meadows, Alyssa Walker, Evelynn Mendoza), who ran 9:18.03. Alyssa Walker placed 7th overall in the 400m dash (56.13). Also, Shakira Robinson placed 11th overall in the 100m dash (12.22). Damion Drummond ran well in the 800m Run, placing 6th overall with a time of 1:51.74. In the Men's 400m Dash, Gareth Burrows ran a personal record of 48.65. Freshmen, Ronnie Beard ran 54.16 in the 400m Hurdles, qualifying him for MEAC Championships and Kimani Kirton threw 16.02m in the Shot Put. The Hawks' next meet will be at the University of Virginia on April 10, 2004, in Charlottesville, VA.
