Philadelphia, PA - In the final meet of the season before MEAC Championships, UMES took a trip to the historic Penn Relays where they did not disappoint. The women's 4 x 100 meter relay brought home the prize, taking first place in their heat. The women ran in heat #9, defeating schools like Delaware, Vermont, Sacred Heart, and more with a time of 47.24. On the men's side they took sixth place in their heat in 4 x 100 with a time of 42.73. They were fourth in their heat in the 4 x 200 with a time of 1:26.71. Not to be outdone by the Lady Hawks the Fighting Hawks won their heat of the 4 x 400 relay with the team of Alex Edwards, Damion Drummond, Ronnie Beard, and Gareth Burrowes.

In the 4 x 400 meter relay the Lady Hawks did not disappoint as the team of Evelynn Mendoza, Schachia Murphy, Kori Barrett, and Alyssa Walker took the first in their section with a time of 3:48.63. The 4 x 200 meter relay team was fifth in their heat with a 1:40.48. In the women's 4 x 800 meter relay the Lady Hawks came home 16th in a crowded field, posting a time of 9:15.17.

Eva Slavikova set a school and MEAC record in the 3000 meter run taking sixth place overall with a time of 9.47.13, finishing behind only Villanova and four ACC schools. Kimani Kirton took 14th place in the men's discuss with a throw of 45.56.

The Hawks now move on to Florida where they will take on the MEAC field in the 2004 Outdoor Track Championships.
