UMES WOMEN SET SPRINT MEDLEY SCHOOL RECORD

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --Competing in one of the most recognized track and field meets on the east coast, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Track & Field program finished with respectable marks in all events it entered. The women's sprint medley team of Whitney Jackson, Gayon Evans, Lenora-Guion Firmin and Emilie Ducados finished in fourth place and marked a new school record in the event.
The team ran a time of 3:51.31 to break the previous record of 4:01.81 set in 2011. Ducados was also a member of the team that set the previous record in Gainesville, Florida.
Both teams found success in the relay events. The men's program finished second in the 4x200m IC4A race. Javon Spencer, Ramone Waite, Nyls Nubret and Marcus Wallace finished in 1:25.13 for a silver-place finish. Ackeem Smith took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.11 seconds.
In field events, Geranda Williams and Imani Cox each finished third in their respective events. Williams jumped to a 12.16m distance in the triple jump, while Cox finished with a shot of 15.23 meters in the shot put.
Dillon Simon took ninth in the shot put with his distance of 15.70 meters. UMES will conclude its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season with championships taking place May 2-4 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
