PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's sprint medley team set a new school record at the Penn Relays on April 26-28 in Philadelphia, Pa. The sprint medley squad (Sherie Brown, Danieth Pryce, Tanisha Wisdom and Merrecia James) crossed the line in 3:55.20 to place sixth overall on the second day of the event. The same quartet won their heat in the 4x400m relay on day one with a mark of 3:48.25. The men's 4x400m relay team (Clayton James, Christopher Dawkins, Ronnie Beard, William McCullough) won their heat after crossing the line in 3:15.66 while the sprint medley squad (Ronnie Beard, William McCullough, Christopher Dawkins, Chris Havrilla) had a good outing after finishing their event in 3:31.01. Beard had a top 10 finish in the men's 400m hurdles when he took 10th in 53.33. In field events, Kimani Kirton finished in the top five in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.14m (56-02.75 feet), a hurl that placed him fourth overall. Sherita Harriott had a strong showing in the women's javelin when she took 12th with a throw of 39.43m (129.36 feet). UMES returns to action on May 3-5 at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships in Baltimore, Md.
