PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The UMES track and field team completed at the Penn Relays, April 27-29 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished second in their heat, clocking in at 3:13. 71. Members of the squad included Mikel Thomas, Ronnie Beard, Christopher Dawkins and William McCullough. On the women's side, the 4x200 meter relay squad of Cierra Layne, Nicole McKenzie, Tanesha Wisdom and Sherie Brown took fourth in their heat in 1:39.00 while the 4x400 team of Layne, Wisdom, Ariana Forbes and Shakira Robinson was sixth in their heat in 4:00.22. Junior Dionne Wright had a successful outing in the shot put as she took sixth in her division with a throw of 14.24 meters (46-8 feet). The Hawks return to action Thursday, May 4 at the MEAC Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.
