ATLANTA, GA - Junior Ronnie Beard posted a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 51.24 in the men's 400m hurdles to lead the UMES men's and women's track and field teams at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 12-13. Beard, who set a personal record (pr) in that event with his eighth-place finish, also posted a pr when he took third in the 110m hurdles in 14.03 seconds. The Frederick, Maryland native qualified for NCAA Regionals in that event earlier this season at Virginia's Lou Onesty Invite. Sophomore Jason Daley tallied a sixth-place finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.09 meters (23-05.25 feet). Sherita Harriott posted a fourth-place finish in the women's javelin throw with a 41.84m (137-03 feet) toss while Dionne Wright threw 14.25m (46-09.00 feet) en route to an eighth-place finish in the women's shot put. Junior Danieth Pryce finished fourth in the women's 100m dash with a time of 11.91 while 4x100m relay squad of Shakira Robinson, Pryce, Tanisha Wisdom and Cierra Layne also took fourth in 45.82. The meet marked the end of the regular season for the majority of the UMES track and field team. Dwayne Robinson, Janeth Chelangat, Beard, Wright, Wisdom, Pryce and the 4x100m relay women's squad will try to advance their seasons when they head to NCAA Regional Competition on May 26-27 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
