ATLANTA, GA - Sophomore Kimani Kirton broke the UMES record in the men's shot put with a throw of 18.64 meters (61 feet, 2 inches) and set a new conference record to lead the track and field teams at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 13-14.

Kirton, the 2005 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) indoor and outdoor shot put champion, eclipsed the school record three times this season and set a new conference mark twice. His record setting throw on Friday, May 13 gave him 3rd place honors as he finished behind competitors from ACC powerhouses Florida State and Virginia Tech.

Sophomore Ronnie Beard posted a NCAA Region qualifying time of 51.91 in the 400 IH and set a personal record, while Dwayne Robinson took seventh in the preliminary round of the 110m hurdles in 13.97.

Eva Slavikova joined Kirton in the record books this weekend. The sophomore from the Czech Republic set a new school record in the 1500m run with her time of 4:29.55.
