VANESSA HENRY ADVANCES TO NCAA FINALS, HAWKS PREPARE TO COMPETE IN SECOND ROUND

Princess Anne, Md. --Vanessa Henry will advance to the finals round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Henry, having finished second in her flight with a 16.48-meter toss, will represent the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the shot put finals. Three other Hawks advance to the second round of the NCAA East Preliminary.

Cynthia Anais, Lenora Guion-Firmin and Andre Walsh will continue their pursuit for NCAA Championship finishes as they advance to the second round.

Anais won her heat of the 800-meter run with her time of 2:05.81. Guion-Firmin also won her event, posting a 52.76 second finish in the 400-meter dash. Both runners will advance and compete in the top five of their respective events.

Walsh placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.81, and will compete in the top three of his heat in round two. Competing in the 110-meter hurdles, Ackeem Smith will challenge alongside the college's best athletes in the first round.

Marcus Wallace and Owen Cain will also compete in the first round today in the 200-meter dash and triple jump, respectively. Cain seeded with a 15.57-meter finish, while Wallace placed with a 21.14-second mark.

Zavior Brown finished in the top 40 of the 800-meter run with his time of 1:52.61.
