SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Dwayne Robinson completed day one of competition of the NCAA Championships in impressive fashion. The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica ran 14.16 in the the first round of the 110m hurdles but fell short of making it to the next round. Robinson, the only Hawk to compete in the National Championships, placed fifth in his heat and defeated competitors from the Pac-10 and Big 12 conferences. The top three from each heat plus the next best six times advanced to the semifinal round. Robinson missed the semifinal round by just three tenths of a second. UMES had an outstanding track and field season in which several school and conference records were broken. The Hawks also qualified two for the NCAA Championships (Robinson and Eva Slavikova); the first time in many years that UMES was represented on the national level. Robinson and the rest of the team will look forward to next season, beginning with cross-country in September.
