KINGSTON, Jamaica - University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior-to-be Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) finished second in the 400 meters at the Jamaican Track and Field Senior National Championships at National Stadium this past weekend.

Fothergill, who is a native of Jamaica and competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics for his country, ran 45.57 in Sunday's final round. He earned an opportunity to represent Jamaica in the 2009 IAAF World Championships, set for Aug. 15-23, in Berlin, Germany.

 Fothergill ran his top time of the 2009 outdoor season (45.48) to make his way to the final on Saturday, qualifying third. He ran 46.63, getting out the prelims with the eighth-best time.

Fothergill will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay in Berlin with teammates Ricardo Chambers, Lansford Spence and Dane Hyatt, who rounded out the top four in the 400-meter final.
