PRINCESS ANNE, Md.--Junior track & field athletes Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) and Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on April 1st. Simon is being named for the sixth time this season, while Evans is being named for the fourth time.

Each athlete earned the honor of opposite sides of the competition. For Evans, it was her performance in the 100 meter dash that stood out this past weekend. In the preliminaries, she qualified for the eight person finals by finishing first in a field of 157 athletes with a time of 11.56 seconds. Evans followed that with an 11.77 second finals performance, ultimately placing her in fourth. Gayon also assisted the 4x400 relay team in earning their best time of the year, finishing 11th with a time of 3:47.15.

Simon finished the Raleigh Relays with two top ten finishes in the field events. In the discus throw, Dillon finished in fifth with a throw of 53.15 meters, his best throw of the season, just ½ a meter off his school record toss. Even better was his performance in the shot put, where Simon placed 2nd in the field of 65 athletes with a throw of 17.26 meters. His best shot put throw came in the indoor season, a record setting 18.81 meter distance in February.

Both Simon and Evans will travel along with the rest of the Hawks' track squad to High Point, N.C., for the Vertklasse Meeting on April 4th and 5th.
